Hi Ellen,
I don't know much about parrot psychology but I can tell you about my experiences with Thor. Thor is now 5 years old. When he was a baby he was docile with everyone. When he was about three he started becomming a one person bird. Even with me he started making daily chalenges for authority. He became very territorial around his cage. He would agressivly lunge at anyone who tried to touch it, even me. My girlfriend and my mom, both of whom he loves very much, had to start using a step-up stick to get him from his cage. Now that Thor is 5 and a half he seems to be starting to calm down. Now when he sees a hand reaching for him he turns his head for a scratch rather than taking a swing at it. My guess is that it is all part of puberty. We recently took Thor on a weekend trip to a country cabin. He had a long 5 hour drive and several days in a new locat1on. It really seemed to take a lot of the wind out of his sails. He was no longer in HIS house and became very needy. Even though he is now home he still seems to want the increased levels of attention.
As for screaming, Thor screams at times too. When he crosses the line I tell him "NO" in a firm voice. If that doesn't stop him I stuff him in his cage and cover it. (We a currently making a new cover as he has chewed holes all over the old one, but it does stop the screaming.)
