Hi Carolan,

Thanks for responding. She did bump the tip -- I saw her do it and saw a little piece hanging there immediately afterward. I was kind of surprised her beak tip was that soft as my blue crown's is much harder and it would take quite a whump to get it to break off. His beak peels too, but in a different way. Well, if I see any other signs, back to the vet we will go.

: Hi, Jean. The peeling beak had me worried the first time also. But then I found out that Cape parrots [other parrots also??] get the new growth underneath, and the old stuff on the top just scales off. If Betty will let you, you can gently scrape a lot of it off with your fingernail, and she'll probably be pretty grateful. This should not cause the tip to fall off, however. I'm guessing that the two are unrelated. Perhaps she bumped the tip.

: : Hi,

: : I just brought home my new UnCape, Betty, and now I am sick to death worrying about her peeling beak. She had a lot of tests and got a clean bill of health at the vet, but then I started reading online about aspergillosis and peeling beaks. Can anyone tell me about the texture of their UnCape's beak? Betty's seems sort of soft and peely, and she knocked the tip off of it today. She is about 18 months old.

: : Thanks,

: : Jean
