You can decrease the dry flaking on your cape's beak by feeding a diet with more natural oils in it. In the wilds they eat podocarpus kernels.....captivity we add more fatty nuts--macadamia and brazils expecially-- (capes do not have overweight problems) perhaps some extra virgin olive oil on her dish twice a week. Sunflower seed from the health food store, sesame seeds, peanut butter sandwich treats. You may also be feeding a pellet formulated with an improper protein content as that can affect the keratin quality in beak and nails. By and large a dry flaking beak means a TOO DRY diet! Coconut and palm are great add-ons. You can topically treat it by rubbing a bit of Vitamin E from a 200iu capsule on the beak once every week or two. It absorbs and has no side effects. Make sure your bird bathes regularly....
